Design Tip #1 by Kawiku Design Tip #1 by Kawiku
Just a very quick tutorial I made to help begginer artists to design characters. Actually, this is not really a tutorial at all, just a reference of colors to NOT put directly together if you don't want to hurt people's eyes by making poor color choices. If you have characters with very similar color palettes, you may want to read about the theory of colors to help you at designing characters.

I'm not going to explain the whole theory of colors, since I'm not too good at explaining and there are already plenty of tutorials you can find about it.

So here are two tutorials on colors made by others, containing very useful information that will help you in designing characters and even more:

It depends on the luminosity of the colors and the person looking at it, really. I'm not saying that this is right or that this is wrong, but it just depends on what you're using it for, the purpose, private or commercial, etc.

So I wouldn't really think it's all bad if it's just someone having fun and not actually trying to "seriously" design a character. I would just leave them alone for the most part.

I personally think it's on the person to determine whether or not these are "eye hurting". (Especially if medical conditions make a difference in it too, if there is any....)

Some people really love discording colors, though. "eye burning" can convey different emotions that harmonious palettes can't.
