Fennekat 01 - OPEN by Kawiku Fennekat 01 - OPEN by Kawiku
Komouri-Chan is in need of money, I'm trying to help them re-selling this character they bought from me a while ago.
They are looking for the the price they paid for it, $70.

If you are interested in buying this character please let us know <3

There will be a new fennekat for auction every 2 days, for a total of 7 adoptable fennekats in 2 weeks. This time I will upload them separately, instead of uploading them all at once~

Fennekats are closed species created by me. The only way to adopt one at the moment is from auctions.

!! Important - Read the rules before bidding

Starting bid: $15
Minimum increase: $2
Auto buy: $70

Auction Rules

:bulletblue: Paypal only, no points.
:bulletblue: Please bid by replying to the highest bidding comment.
:bulletblue: Do not bid what you can't afford.
:bulletblue: Be prepared to pay when the auction ends, I can wait up to 5 days but after that it will go to the second highest bidder.
:bulletblue: You cannot retract/cancel/lower your bid, so please make sure before placing your bid.
:bulletblue: The auction ends in 48h after this was posted.
:bulletblue: Once you own the character, you are allowed to change the patterns/colors as you please.
:bulletblue: Larger size/no watermark version will also be sent to the winner (750x650).

Good luck!

You always take advantage of your fame to get as much money as you can for something that is completely not worth it. The word for this has completely slipped my mind, but this is devious.
Taking advantage of your fame and the amount of watchers you have, knowing how desperate everyone is to get a character just because it'made by you. This is a complete ripoff. Infact, most of your characters are a complete ripoff.
I don't care if you have money problems, but this is just terrible.
I'm going to get a lot of hate for pointing this out, and I don't care. I had to say.

So much negativity... -__-
Isn't it always that way, though? More popular=higher price. (Like why the hell is Pollock worth millions? It's just friggin paint splashes.)
I know some artists who get bids close to $200 for designs that, had they been designed by other artists, would have sold for far less. Granted, these are auctions with no AB, and with start bids as low as $0. Given the start, the customer only pays what he/she is comfortable paying, but still. Even without that AB, I'm sure the auction would have gotten there, given enough time and Kawiku's popularity, because, as we all know: design + popularity > greatest design ever
Such is life.
I wouldn't really call it exploitation. If the customers won't have it, they won't pay. Simple as that.

And what even determines the worth of art?
Technique? But a forgery indistinguishable from the original piece is still valued far less than the original.
Originality? What is originality? Originality is simply a summation of our own experience. Nothing is ever 100% original. None of us lives in complete isolation.
I've seen a design that was nothing more than a chibi wearing a white sweater, skinny jeans, and a necklace sell for $900. Is that money wasted?
Popularity? ...apparently not.
What, then?

I love her art, but yes. Damn. That last Halloween character pissed me off. A candle character? With 5 colors? Honestly.
She could dig a little deeper and design more creatively, because this kind of stuff is crap. She's wasting her potential.

!

Shouldn't you make an adoptable that's easy to reproduce? Why make a hard one that's an ache to draw?

I thought the little candle thing was cute.

More complicated =/= better. First thing you learn in art school. :3 The candle character was a solid concept, is simple to draw so whoever buys it won't expend all their energy in a few art pieces with them (I'd prefer a solid color character over a rainbow tiger doberman whatever any day) and obviously the people who were willing to pay money to own that character thought that the candle thing was just the bees knees.

Art is subjective and Kawiku is not wasting her potential, she is not designing shallowly (art that appeals to people on a scale that gathers a ton of watchers requires a lot of discipline and effort) and 5 colors is not a reason for anything to be good, bad, worthy or unworthy!~

It reminded me of the pokemon sdfkhjlkhg

I know that, ahah. I'm in an AP studio art class.
She just seemed to regenerate the marking on this with a darker color each time. Disappointing.

Oh yeah, Litwick is a thing. But the flame is on top of its head instead of replacing it I think.

It's really up to her - and if she goes with what's proven to work it's a little less risky than going in a new direction with buyers who only want banded/striped fennekats. But then again, she also just might be really really fond of legbands and tailstripes! I knew when I ran a mildly successful (but mostly non-profit) adopts thing I repeated designs I really liked simply because I liked them. Everyone has their own preferences.

Agreed.
Now don't get me wrong, I don't judge people for how much they spend adoptables because it's absolutely none of my buisness.....
.....but it IS upsetting to see people play the popularity card when it comes to pricing their adopts.
No offense to Kawiku but I'm not too sure about these recent designs. I feel like they are very generic and are being spammed to bring in money from her rabid fanbase.
I don't want to sound rude, I love her artwork but this is just my honest opinion. ;___;

^^^ This. It's usually pretty obvious when an artist is expending their popularity for money.

She could also sell some of her adopts for a cheaper price for the less well-off people who are looking for a character, also. I mean, not everyone just happens to have $70 lying around.

I don't think she should have to lower her prices for people who can't afford it. I would never lower my commission prices just because some 12 year old kid can't afford it...I got bills to pay D:
There are PLENTY of (much) cheaper adopts all over dA, many of them very high quality.... The people who are looking to buy a character on a budget just have to look elsewhere~

It seems pretty butthurt. You're using the fact that Kawiku has a pretty big following as a reason for them not being entitled to customers. You're making it out like Kawiku is using their position to get an unfair profit - and it's not true. Nobody is forcing the people who buy her designs to buy them. IE, there is no reason to get up in arms over it. S/he is not forcing you to look at or purchase her art. S/he's a good artist with cute designs, and there's a market for those designs.
Kawiku's even gotten some new linearts, so it's not like she's just recoloring the same old stuff for this - s/he put a lot of effort into this. Hey, if it took her ten hours to make something like this (just as example) she's making less than minimum wage for it at the autobuy. And high autobuys are just there to let people bid instead of someone coming along and sweeping everyone else away instantly. She probably didn't intend for someone to immediately go 'I must have this seafoam colored cat thing, I will give you 70$ for rights to it'.
It's a good way to make money and not many people can do it, so I personally congratulate her. She's managed to find her niche and it's all turning out all right for her. And from her journal and everything too.

"But I spent a lot of time designing each of them... and I kinda want to keep them xD But selling character designs is my main source of incomes at the moment ;w; since I still don't feel ready to re-open commissions yet."

It took me a good half hour of bouncing around to write this? I wasn't sure at the time of writing s/he's if Kawiku was a dude or a chick. Since then i've found out?
is this a problem
